In 2004, Taylor Tyng and Dave Funkhouser, the Creative Team at IOWA Interactive, started WOODSUCH, an online gallery featuring creative experiments targeting artists in the advertising industry looking for a creative outlet.

Its intent is both “art for art’s sake” and to grow the use of the computer as a tool for fine art.  No limitations are applied other than artists must work with the given theme of the assigned project. In the Spring of 2005, the WOODSUCH projects were exhibited for the first time in Los Angeles, CA, and the proceeds from the art sold were donated to a non-profit arts center.

In the Fall of 2005, WOODSUCH and RES collaborated to create a traveling art exhibition that displayed in the lobby of the venues along the RESFEST tour.  RES invited artists in the commercial and music video industries to participate in a special WOODSUCH PROJECT for RESFEST based upong the Fesiva's theme "Keep it Curious." The project is available online. Please visite www.woodsuch.com to view the artwork or become a Woodsucher!

RESFEST & WOODSUCH Join Forces:
“Keep It Curious” Poster Project

www.woodsuch.com

Resfest has teamed up for the first time with Woodsuch to commission and curate a collection of one-of-a-kind posters inspired by this year’s festival theme “Keep It Curious.” Artists from each of the 15 countries on the Resfest global tour have been invited to create a poster, using any artistic style to convey their interpretation of “curious.” These geographically diverse artists are multi-disciplined in motion graphic design, website design, visual effects and print. Works will be exhibited as a traveling gallery space on the festival tour, and also available online at www.woodsuch.com.

Woodsuch is a series of creative experiments for graphic artists working in advertising and marketing to use their talents outside the commercial space. These experiments fuse fine art with digital design and encourage “art for art’s sake.” Completed projects are exhibited at live gallery events and online.

The 9th annual Resfest tour kicks off in New York City September 15th-18th, and travels worldwide to over 35 cities on six continents, attracting a global network of creators and cultural enthusiasts. The festival is a celebration of creativity that manifests itself through a dynamic series of events. Festival activities include screenings, seminars, educational sessions, live music performances, parties, and interactive entertainment.

This year, Resfest will present new and award-winning work from Jared Hess, Gaelle Dennis, Miguel Arteta, Johan Kramer, Eduoard Salier, Chris Cunningham, and Stylewar; retrospectives for the artist Beck and design collective Traktor; two showcases of music videos – “Video Electronica” and “Videos That Rock”; “Cut & Paste,” celebrating DIY-type filmmaking; “By Design,” a collection of visually-arresting and thought-provoking motion graphics and designed-based animation; “Triple Threat,” spotlighting three innovative young filmmakers Jonnie Ross, Nagi Noda, and Francois Vogel; and keynote discussions with renowned directors Stéphane Sednaoui, Mike Mills, Mark Romanek, MK12 and Charlie White. Features include the world premiere of Doug Pray’s graffiti documentary Infamy; two rarely seen films by Mike Mills; sneaker documentary “Just For Kicks”; and “Ginga: The Soul of Brasilian Football.”
